awhile since we touched base, huh? since our last email update
we've moved camp from phoenix back to ny, we've put some politically-leaning
writings up in applesauce, we've been teaching a multi-site media
arts education program, we've gone really crazy with the "nerds"
paraphenalia, and we are preparing to show Red Bone Guerillas
at BAM at the end of the summer. (september 10th to be exact.
mark yr calenders and prepare to spread the word. ;o)

1.
we're currently in St. Croix teaching the second leg of "OneShot,"
an international media education program made possible by arts
collective Red Clay Arts. in the program, young people study digital
photography and documentary filmmaking, and use it to tell the
stories of their own communities. the program seeks to connect
students from brooklyn with a different sattelite area each year.
there will be a show of the kids' work at Restoration's Skylight
Gallery, opening on august 27th. you can learn more at
http://www.redclayarts.com.
2. online
we've got some new pieces in applesauce:
an open letter to Bill Cosby by mtume salaam, a rant about macy
gray and HIV/AIDS by angelica lindsey, and a call to action regarding
the current interim travel prohibitions to Cuba (this one's personal
b/c webmistress jamyla's sister is on her way to med school there;
please take a moment to send an email).
3. also: nerd
alert. we've been slowly building up the 'nerd' offerings
in our cafepress store... we've now got "baby nerds"
and "nerd chic" on offer as well as the classic "black
nerds unite." don't be the last nerd on your block to represent!
4. also: popandpolitics.com,
the online magazine edited by Farai Chideya, has been relaunched!
and just in time, too. she and the rest of the site's intrepid
staff have been reporting on the dem con (and they'll be doing
the GOP convention too), popular culture, and all things smart
and sexy. check it out if you love your country. ;o)
